I am from Florida, and lived in the colorado mountains for 8 years. I used to go and see hundreds of pounds of boletus edulis some seasons with very few chanterelles. Other seasons would bring a shortage in the king, and a massive amount of chanterelles. In the rainy summer of 2001 or 2002 in north Florida I found 100’s of lbs of chanterelles. I saw a line of leaves washed down a grassy hill, and saw chanterelles growing from the mycorrhiza that was in the line of oak leaves and loose soil that washed down the hill the night before. That’s my 2 cents. I love mushroom hunting, especially in the high mountains. Oh yeah, I guess they are fun to cook also.
