Shelter in Place – Day 7 – French Toast, Skirt Steak, Broccoli and Bread

My husband makes amazing bread. Two loaves at a time. There are three of us. Even with all of us being home all day, every day, sometimes we just can’t keep up. Sometimes we need to get creative and this time the creativity was simple: French Toast!

Sourdough French Toast

4 thick slices of yummy sourdough

1 egg

1/2 cu milk

1/2 t vanilla

1/2 t cinnamon

Whisk together and soak the bread for at least a minute on each side. Pan fry in butter over medium heat until browned on each side.

Yet another day of breakfast for lunch…someone should come up with a name for that. Lunchfast?

The middle of the day was filled with Dungeons and Dragon. We extended our table and we are eating at the last little two feet because the laptop (to conference in friends), books, and character sheets fill the rest. I think it’s great. It’s a creative, cooperative activity that does not involve a video game! The only reason the computer is out is to include friends. During the dungeoning, the DM (dungeon master, aka my husband) was multitasking and making some more sourdough.

Eventually, the dungeon dispersed and it was the next meal time. Just dinner. Not Linner or Dunch.

I marinated some skirt steak, steamed some broccoli and toasted some bread.

Skirt Steak marinade:

1 lb skirt steak

1/4 c soy sauce

1/8 c mirin

1T brown sugar

Whisk ingredients together and let marinade about 1 hour at room temperature.

I didn’t fire up the grill because it was supposed to rain…it never did, my phone lied, but anyway…I broiled the skirt steak for about 5 minutes on each side.

While it was broiling, I steamed the broccoli for 5 minutes then drizzled it with usukushi (regular soy works too) and sesame oil and sprinkled with black sesame seeds.

Toast some bread, pour a glass of Pinot and enjoy an episode of Homeland because it’s almost as crazy as real life.
