We sauntered in to Avignon on the train with no reservations and neither of us really speak french. We go straight to the tourist center, get hotel recommendations and then go in search of a place for dinner. The town is great, it is still surrounded by fortified walls and the main attraction is the Palais du Pape built beginning in 1335. But next door to the Palace is Christian Etienne in a building that was also built centuries ago.

The outside of the building and the entrance are stone and beautiful. The room we were seated in was painted yellow and a little too chic for my tastes but we quickly forgot the ambiance when the menus arrived.
