Soif Wine Bar 105 Walnut St. Santa Cruz, CA 831-423-2020 Downtown Santa Cruz has been taken by storm. A small little wine joint, low profile, on Walnut Ave just off of Pacific (in the back of the old Walgreens building)…it looks like a nice place to stop for a glass of wine while you’re killing…

Bellagio3600 Las Vegas Blvd.South Las Vegas, NV 89109702-693-7223. I’ve had the opportunity to not only eat at one Michael Mina, but two. The first was in Las Vegas and we were impressed, although we were still being subjected to “Vegas people.” They are not our people. The sommelier and waiter were actually quite appreciative of…

Soup topped with fresh basil and tomatoes

7/13/11 Update: I made a summery version of this. Similar recipe, dropped the saffron. Instead of topping with pesto, I topped with fresh tomatoes and basil. I picked up some snapper at the farmers market the other day with the plans to make fish tacos. When I went to actually prepare the fish tacos I…

I usually don’t make it to the store on Tuesday. Wednesday is Farmer’s market day so I try to just hold off and eat what we’ve got. Last night the fridge was pretty empty. But from the garden I picked this lovely plate of Brandywine tomatoes. I grow Winter garden, so I can pick things…

Fried up some leftover sushi rice for a crunchy side. Added a little of @chezpim chili jam on the side for good measure.

Happy with this one. I still have an insane amount of Thai basil in the garden!

Made temaki with minced otoro, green onions and cucumber.

Seared the other half of the otoro very briefly and served with little dots of yuzu kosho.
We literally ordered everything on the menu @themi We literally ordered everything on the menu @themidway_s_c last night but the pasta (I mean, we didn't want to overdo it 😂).

The server thought we were joking. Not joking. Ate it all (well, left a few pieces of squash and potato with the halibut, I hit a wall), but it was ALL SO GOOD. Even flipped the table before the 7pm reso coming in after us 🤘

Because of my severe hatred of cheese, olives and peppers,I can't usually do that but the menu accommodated me last night! So much fun.
